A television campaign has been launched in New Zealand aiming to attract 103,000 visitors to Fiji's shores.
The 60-second commercial promoting Fiji as a top tourist destination hopes to counter declines in foreign visitors as well boost travel to the country in low season months.
Tourism Fiji chairman Patrick Wong said figures for the first quarter of 2009 show outbound travel from New Zealand down by 35 percent compared to 2008.
Wong said the "Fiji Me" drive was aimed at promoting Fiji as an affordable premier tropical destination and one that is unique from its competitors.
"We are also looking at improving the market perception of the variety of holiday experiences available in Fiji and promote a broader range of the whole Fiji experience," Wong said.
It is not clear how much money is being used by Tourism Fiji for this campaign.
Fiji Islands Hotel and Tourism Association president Dixon Seeto said the campaign is an important one since New Zealand is the second largest market for Fiji.
"It should be a priority at this stage and to get immediate results, we need to pump the Australia and NZ markets.
"NZ is an important market in terms of their length of stay and spending," Seeto told AHN Media.
He suggested that such campaigns be launched with other markets.
Seeto added there should be more promotions and more attractive and competitive packages to lure visitors to Fiji.
