South Pacific College of Natural Therapies teaches Natural Medicine to students passionate about the importance of health and wellbeing. The College is New Zealand’s first and foremost provider of Natural Medicine.
Since the first members met in 1940, SPCNT has evolved, grown and pushed learning boundaries, moving in to its own purpose built premises in 2007. This year SPCNT purchased the Auckland College of Classical Homeopathy, whose courses are to be integrated into the new degree course, Bachelor of Natural Medicine (NZQA approval pending). This degree has an optional pathway, Traditional Pasefika Medicine.
SPCNT caters for the many and varied needs of students committed to learning about this fascinating field of medicine. The first two years of study can be undertaken by distance education. In the degree programme wisdom traditions are integrated with scientific knowledge. Time is spent studying the marketing, commercial and practical aspects of setting up a practice / business in the natural health field. Third year students work under supervision in the college clinic, assisting clients to become healthy.
As well as the three year degree programme (seven years part time), from 2010 the college will be offering a one year Diploma in Traditional Pasefika Healing (three years part time).
In the last two years the college has offered scholarships that cover full tuition fees, to Pasefika students.
One of the fastest growing industries in the world today is the wellness industry, and in years to come the scope of natural medicine qualifications will be enormous, leading to many opportunities in both private practice and the health industry.
